It's only mid-August, but another school year has started: Alex is is now in First Grade at Morris Brandon! Her teacher is the new Mr. Smith as opposed to the "old" (read: tenured) Mrs. Smith, and her first day was great! Alex said they got to know new friends in her class, and she saw all of her classmates from last year. They read some books, had fun at lunch (it's later this year: 11:20ish) and played on the playground. She told one story of how Ryan in her class ate his hot dog lunch too fast, then jumped rope too much and then threw up. Fortunately, Alex was able to take him to see Nurse Nancy, but she had already left for the day, so he went home too (now that's an unfortunate first day). Her room is really cold, and everyone got hungry early, so they had snacks first. After a day at the pool, Avery and Mac helped Mommy pick-up Alex. The first thing Avery said was, "Alex N. Fassnacht, did you say 'woweee wow wow, I can't believe my eyeballs' in first grade today?" (a la Junie B. Jones). Then we headed to the ice cream store for a special treat with our walkpool friend Leah. Alex found a note from Mr. Smith (or 'Mr. Scary' as Avery said using another Junie B. reference) that was personalized to her: it said how he heard she was a great artist, a great big sister and always took good care of her dog Lily! She was impressed he already knew that about her! Looks like it will be a great year!
